Identity Theft

According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is on the rise, affecting nearly 10 million victims in 2008 (a 22% increase from 2007). Low-tech methods for stealing personal information are still the most popular for identity thieves. Stole n wallets and physical documents accounted for 43% of all identity theft, while online methods accounted for only 11%.

Compliance

It not only makes sense to protect confidential information, it is the law. There are several regulations, which prohibit the improper disposal of confidential information. Mobile document shredding is driven by this legislation designed to protect the privacy of businesses and individuals. Pieces of legislation having the biggest impact include: California v. Greenwood, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act),

Bill C-6, and FACTA (Fair and Accurate Transaction Act). Businesses are held to a high standard of confidentiality, and failure to comply could result in fines and/or litigation.

Cost effectiveness

Office shredders are often time-consuming and expensive to maintain. The time it takes for employees to shred confidential information could be more wisely spent on daily responsibilities. Our shredding services are generally cheaper than maintaining an office shredder and paying an employee to shred all confidential information. DATA ARMOR TX can shred in minutes the same amount of documents that it would take an employee 8 hours to do

manually. There is no need to separate staples, or paper clips with our equipment, saving time while keeping information confidential.

Safety

Even small machines could cause injury if they grab clothing, accessories or handled improperly. These machines are notorious for brake downs which require employees to work on them creating liability and possible injury. Proper Employee Participation – Employees are more likely to understand the value of discarded information when a plan is put in place with proper training. Additionally, the process limits access to payroll, legal and/or employment issues. In-house shredding will not handle large volumes and may prompt employees to circumvent the destruction process.

Successful Records Management Program

Secure destruction of confidential documents is an integral part of any records management program. By using our destruction services,

employees have a place to put sensitive information. Once confidential documents are no longer needed, employees simply place the confidential information into the secure collection containers provided by DATA ARMOR TX.

Environmentally Friendly

Shredding is environmentally friendly. Once shredded, paper is recycled and electronic records are reduced to very small sized particles, reducing landfill waste.
